February & March: The Months of Health & Movement

I filmed a video for my YouTube channel talking about everything I worked on in February and March and I cannot find my memory card reader ANYWHERE. The footage is floating around on my memory card waiting for someone to do something with it, and that somebody is not going to be me because I can't get it onto my Mac.

Hello there :)

It's been a while.

For those of you who missed my January post, I'm challenging myself to theme each month of the year in an attempt to become a better version of myself. Arguably, the best version of myself. These themes are a bit all over the board, but the intention of 2022 is to focus in on these smaller pieces of what creates me and tweak them until they feel right and they fit into my daily routine.

These monthly themes are not intended to be overnight fixes, rather the focus of one month that is then integrated into my daily routine going forward and building small habits I can continue to work on through the year.

This post is going to cover February and March because they sort of go hand-in-hand and we can talk about April next week. :)

February was the month of Wellness.

This was the month I scheduled my doctor's appointments and ensured I stayed up on any prescriptions I was taking.

In February, I

  • Got two fillings done at my dentist
  • Scheduled my dental cleaning
  • Went to the eye doctor to update my prescription and get new frames
  • Go to my weight loss doctor monthly appointment
  • Take my sleep test for my weight loss doctor
  • Visit my GP to renew my birth control
  • Schedule my OB/GYN appointment for May 11th
That about covered all of my doctor bases, minus mental health. I did discuss my mental health options with my GP and she prescribed Zoloft and recommended me to a psychology center to visit to find somebody to talk to, which I have not yet done, but that's part of that intention of going forward.

I reached one of my highest step count weeks this month at 78,723 steps.

March was the month of Movement.

While I have been going to the weight loss doctor and have been generally been eating alright, I have wanted to find more ways to move my body that I genuinely enjoy. At the end of February I signed up for a gym membership and I have been loving it. I've found that I love weight lifting, a lot. It makes me feel so confident. I started lifting using the Peloton app and it helped me IMMENSELY because the instructors cover form so when it was time for me to get into the gym, I wasn't as timid as I thought I would be.
I also started going to a new gym by my house called Blink. I was previously at Planet Fitness, but I enjoy Blink far more. The atmosphere is comfortable, the machines are newer, I could go on and on about how much I enjoy going to the gym.
Most importantly, this month has taught me the importance in loving body movement and being grateful that my body is able to move the way it does. It's been exciting to watch my body push itself to new limits while also watching it change into a a kore pronounced version of itself.

As I'm writing this in May (blah blah blah lost memory card reader), I've found myself moving less than I was when it was the month's purpose and I wasn't wearing my Fitbit for the majority of April. I've since found myself setting aside at least one chunk of time a day to get some kind of movement in. These two months made me more aware of the time I am spending, or am not spending, moving my body and paying attention to what I'm eating, and for that awareness, I'm grateful.
