My Monthly Recap - January 2023

January was a pretty quiet, but very productive month as far as planning for the year, setting small goals, and starting to build habits for 2023. I love celebrating the new year because it almost forces me to reflect, especially this year. I took a hard look at where I was ending 2022 and where I wanted to be by the end of 2023. In tandem with my 30 Before 30 list, it wasn't too hard to start figuring out which habits I wanted to begin forming.

I started an official savings account. I did some research and gathered money that I had been saving, storing it in an account that isn't linked to any of my other accounts which makes it less accessible for me. In January, I added $161.24 to my savings account and have stuck with a budget spreadsheet that has been  the sole reason I've been able to pay off debt. I'll link my spreadsheet here. It's an annual spreadsheet, which is what I was looking for because I want to see my debt laid out for the year. She's got sheets for all different time frames and they work out of Google Docs.

I set a goal for myself to log one workout a day on my Apple Watch and if I was going to miss a day, I couldn't miss two consecutive days. Aside from going on a ton of walks, I go to the gym and use the Peloton app. In January I accumulated:

6 gym workouts

3 Peloton workouts

19 days of exercise logged on Apple Health

The only goals I have for February in terms of movement is to beat the number of days I log exercise by one day and to get into the gym one extra day to make the most of my membership. For anyone that's curious, I go to Blink Fitness and I love it. I found out it's a sister brand to Equinox and Soul Cycle, and it definitely shows through their equipment and atmosphere.

I have been spending so much time with this lil man. He's been living in my lap, in the crooks of my arm, as close to me as he can get at all times.

I started a playlist to keep my top song from each month in 2023. I think this is going to challenge me to listen to more music and branch out. All I've been listening to this year is my 2022 Wrapped playlist. I'll post the code each month, but this is the start of it:

I started working on a temperature blanket. I'll have a separate post all about it at the end of February, but I love it so far. It gives me something to do that isn't screen-oriented and helps me wind down a bit. I'm a little concerned that it isn't going to be long enough or it will evolve into a funky shape, but so far it's promising. Finding a color palette was also a bit of a challenge. My color palette is more muted, and some colors I found were way too bright, but it's all come together. :)

I started DuoLingo. I took French for three years in high school and again in college for about three years. Initially, I wanted to teach French, but my heart has always been with writing. On the hunt for hobbies, I ventured into DuoLingo and have been #1 on each leaderboard + have yet to break my streak. It's a lot of fun, there's no pressure, and I really enjoy revisiting a topic I spent so much school time studying.

It's been a nice month. Quiet, productive,

Overall February Goals:

  • Increase physical activity
  • Keep up Duolingo streak
  • Try one new thing
  • Take more photos
  • Tie up loose ends (started shows, cleaning projects, crafts, etc.)
  • Get to a minimum 50 pages of novel
