A Day at the Morton Arboretum

I don't know who that family in inside the chest, but they were lingering and I just really wanted a photo.

Hey everybody, I hope you're doing well!

If you're newer here, things have been feeling pretty stale for me in the Chicago suburbs. The one thing that keeps it tolerable is the summertime, but even with the nicer weather I can't find much to do besides the usual (Six Flags, the beach, etc.)
To get away from that stale feeling, I bought a book called Daytrips from Chicago and I',m working my way through it.

All of these photos are from The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL.

Last time I was here I was a sophomore in high school and I went with a friend, her mom, and grandma to the pumpkin patch. Later on, her mom got upset with us for waving to a motorcyclist because she thought he was going to follow us home.

(You know the mom from Carrie? She was a little bit like that.)

Being over ten years ago and with the installation of a new exhibit, it was time to revisit!

TL;DR:
These new sculptures that have replaced the giant trolls that used to room the grounds are part of a series called Human + Nature. Unfortunately, we didn't see them all. The arboretum is huge. Luckily, you cannot miss the first photo here of the lady opening her chest. She's at the head of the trail and the photo does her no justice.

There are over 16 miles of trails on the grounds and that is probably where we got turned around and missed a few of the sculptures. The further we went on the trail, the less people we were around which was so nice. As you go further, it's a lot more people that use the area to work out instead of taking a leisure trip.
Aside from trails, they have a children's garden, event space for weddings, and a gift shop. :)

Toward the end of our trail, we stopped at Big Rock visitor center. I don't really know if there is a story behind it. I'm sure there is because it warrants a huge visitor center, but I kept saying "And I am Yao, King of the rock, and there's nothing you fools can do about it."
If you know what movie that's from, comment it down below. :)

As you can see, it is indeed a big rock. But, I can't lie to you, we almost walked past it.

As you can also see here, I'm in a sweatshirt and jeans? I take this back in a heartbeat and wear wither leggings or shorts. It didn't get too hot, but because it's a lot of uneven land and hiking, I started to get uncomfortable and antsy wearing denim.

In the end, it was such a beautiful day, it was something different to do, and it got me outside for hours for the first time in forever. Coming from a different county, it was also nice to spend time on trails and have it feel safer than the forest preserves.
It was also so interesting to see trees I don't see everyday near home, not like I can identify trees or tell you which ones are near my house, but these were different anyways. :) One of my favorite colors is when the shade of green when the sun hits the leaves and it was a day full of that, blue skies, sunshine, and a cool breeze.

Thanks for reading! See you all soon. <3
